About me.
The answer to the “you hungry?” question is always yes in my eyes! I’m Robyn and I am living that expat life in the United Arab Emirates. While I’m at it, I am whipping up some fun food and cocktails to give your nights some spice!
I have always been really into cooking. Growing up, I watched my dad cook dinner almost every night. I am always inspired by fresh produce and seafood that can be transformed from ordinary to extraordinary.
Why a food blog?
Living in the UAE has inspired me to start this food blog for a few reasons. The first is that common items in the United States might not be readily available here. Mostly, I have found these items to be pre-made, convenience foods that you might not even give a second thought, like salad dressing. There might be a half of an aisle devoted to dressings in the US, but not here. You could have only half a dozen choices, but it’s so easy to make, why not make your own?
Secondly, the travel opportunities from the other side of the World are abundant. I cannot wait to explore more of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe. I am inspired by cuisines and cocktails when I travel, and I hope to provide some culinary inspiration from my trips to the far away places.
And thirdly, living in the Middle East and being of Syrian descent is not lost on me. The foods that my Grandmother, or “Teta” as we called her, used to make are reminiscent of the flavors that fill the restaurants and ingredients in the grocery store here. When visiting my Teta as a child, you would open the door of her house to a feast of all of your favorite things. She loved feeding people, especially her family. I learned a lot about cooking from her and through my dad after she passed away. I want to explore more of this side of my ancestry and take advantage of this opportunity of being in the Middle East. My dad is a picky eater, so I know there is so much more in Syrian and Arabic cuisines to explore!
Join me!
Ultimately, this a creative outlet for me, and much like my Teta, cooking is my love language. In my household, you will often hear me ask “ya hungry?”. Even to our rowdy cat Pumpkin Head and our little dog, Wiket. So please join me for dinner, breakfast, a snack or maybe even a drink or two. I will share some ideas, tips, and tricks along the way. So, Stay hungry for more and let’s get inspired!
