Barbecue Chicken Pizza: It’s not Delivery! It’s Homemade!

Barbecue Chicken Pizza: It’s not Delivery! It’s Homemade!

You can almost never fail when combining two delicious things. Barbecue chicken is great and everyone loves pizza, so putting them together just makes sense. Neither makes quite a meal alone, but merge them into one and they are in complete harmony. Barbecue chicken pizza may be the solution to world peace.

In my version of barbecue chicken pizza, a homemade barbecue sauce does double duty and becomes the sauce on the pizza and also the marinade for the chicken. The cheese is a mixture of nutty and delicious gouda with the world pizza standard, mozzarella. And to really make this barbecue chicken pizza outshine, a smattering of red onion and green pepper top it all off to take this pizza to the next level.

Enjoy this with a wedge salad with extra blue cheese dressing to dunk that crust, and you have yourself the perfectly balanced and harmonious meal fit for a nobel prize.

Serves however many people a pizza usually serves.

Suggested Wine Pairing:

Pinot Noir is delicious with both barbecue chicken and with pizza alone, so it is the perfect match for this melodious meal.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough, homemade or store bought

2 cups of barbecue sauce, homemade or store bought

2 smaller chicken breasts

1 cup of mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 cup of gouda cheese, shredded

1/2 red onion, sliced

1 green bell pepper, diced

2 scallions, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Begin by marinating your chicken in 1 cup of barbecue says. Marinate for at least 20 minutes or overnight. Cook your chicken in the prefered method. I always like to grill barbecue, but you could easily bake it. Once the chicken is done, cut into even strips.
  2. If your oven is not hot, preheat your oven to 425F. While the oven is preheating, stretch the pizza dough over your pizza pan and cover with remaining barbecue sauce. Mix the gouda and mozzarella cheese together and spread evenly over the sauce.
  3. Decorate the pizza with the barbecue chicken strips, red onion, and green pepper. Bake for 12 – 15 minutes or until the crust is cooked through and the cheese is melted.
  4. Remove from the oven and top with scallions, cut, and enjoy.
