Whenever I go to Italy, I make sure to eat a caprese salad with pretty much every meal, including breakfast. It’s one of those good, classic, and simple dishes that is just simply delicious. And it’s easy to make too.
For the perfect caprese salad, all you need is good quality ingredients. We currently have an abundance of garden tomatoes, so that’s a no brainer. I actually bought a basil plant from the grocery store that I somehow managed not to kill yet, and store bought mozzarella will be the perfect accompaniment to this simple and delicious caprese salad. Top it off with some crusty bread and a drizzle of balsamic and olive oil and you got yourself a perfect little meal or appetizer for any time of day.
Serves 2 – 4 depending on portion size
Wine Pairing:
A classic caprese salad pairs perfectly with an Italian pinot grigio or make that a prosecco if you want to celebrate!
Caprese Salad Ingredients:
4 tomatoes, sliced
3/4 cup of fresh basil leaves
8 ounces of fresh mozzarella, sliced
Balsamic glaze, olive oil, cracked black pepper, and a baguette to serve
Instructions:
- Caprese salad is a no cook recipe that is super simple! After you slice up your ingredients, arrange the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil leaves on a platter. I like to alternate the ingredients and arrange it in a circular formation to fancy it up a bit.
- Add some freshly cracked black pepper over the top and add a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic glaze and that’s as easy as making caprese salad gets! Be sure to enjoy this with some good bread and wine for the complete expereince!
