Chicken Arayes – Make These Crispy Stuffed Pita Pockets!

Chicken Arayes are a Middle Eastern sandwich that is stuffed with spiced, ground meat, kind of like a kofta, and grilled until crispy and delicious. This hand held pita pocket is the perfect snack, lunch, or quick dinner. They are seriously easy to make but craveable anytime of day, so it is no wonder why they are such a popular street food all over the Middle East.

My version of chicken arayes has it all: crispy bread, juicy filling, and a blend of spices and feta that make this dish as unique as it is exquisite. The flavors blend beautifully, creating a mouthwatering experience. Make it a meal with a refreshing fattoush salad, and you have everything you need for a balanced dinner on the table in less than 20 minutes. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a taste of the Middle East at home!

Serves 4

Ingredients:

1 pound of ground chicken

1/2 cup of feta

1 cup of spinach, chopped

1 clove of garlic, minced

1/4 cup of parsley, chopped

1 tablespoon of bharat

2 pitas, cut in half

2 tablespoons of oil

Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, feta, spinach, garlic, parsely, bharat, and salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  2. Preheat your pan over medium-high heat and add the oil, allowing it to preheat.
  3. Stuff each pita half with the chicken mixture. The pita should be about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Fry each meat stuffed pita for about 5 minutes each side until the chicken is cooked through and the pita is delightfully crispy.
  5. Allow the pita to cool slightly before serving. These chicken arayes are best when eaten by hand, perfect for when you are on the go! Also, I can tell you from experience that no one wants to get scalded by chicken juice.
