Spice is the spice of life. I love a good hot sauce and sometimes when you have an abundance of chili peppers and plums, you just have to improvise. This grilled chicken with plum hot sauce will give your regular old barbeque chicken recipes a kick. It’s also perfect for a weeknight meal and would pair well with my hasselback potatoes or rice pilaf.
But beware, the sauce has a kick but is slightly addictive. It’s kind of like a vinegary barbeque sauce, but has a fruity aftertaste which slightly cools it down. This grilled chicken with hot plum sauce makes extra sauce and you can use it on everything. I like to use it as a salad dressing but my man has used it on literally everything including pasta and eggs.

Serves 4
Tools:
A grill. Any old grill will be fine. Indoor, outdoor, propane, gas, or charcoal to grill the chicken. You will also need a blender or food processor to make the plum hot sauce.
Ingredients:
2 plums, chopped
2 Thai red chilis, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1 tablespoon of honey
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
2 tablespoons oil
salt and pepper
Instructions:
- In a sauce pan. combine plums, chilis, garlic, vinegars, and honey. Simmer over medium heat for about 20 minutes or until reduced by about half. Remove from heat.
- In the meantime, preheat your choice of grill to medium heat.
- Do a quick marinade on the chicken by add cumin, chili powder, salt, pepper, and oil to the chicken.
- Once the grill is heated, add the chicken and cook for 10 minutes on each side.
- Combine the plum sauce ingredients in a blender or food processor and pulse to combine.
- Serve the plum hot sauce on top of the grilled chicken and enjoy!
