Pan Seared Tuna with Spicy Mango Sauce

Pan Seared Tuna with Spicy Mango Sauce

I have been really into the pairing of seafood and fruit lately and my pan seared tuna with mango sauce is no exception. There is something about tuna and mangoes that go together so perfectly. The sweetness from the mangoes gives a refreshing twist to the tuna and adding in some extra spice and acidity really combines these flavors to perfection.

I kept this meal simple and steamed some broccoli, which also went well with the mango sauce and whipped up some coconut ginger rice. I mean, let’s be real, I cannot have a meal with out my carbs! This seared tuna and mango sauce came out elegantly, but is still simple to make and not super time consuming. Tuna cooks very quickly, so that always helps!

Serves 4

Tools:

A food processor or blender will be key for the consistency of the mango sauce.

Ingredients:

1 lb. of tuna, ahi or the loin

2 ripe mangoes, seeded and diced

Juice of 1 lime

2 cloves of garlic

2 Thai red chilis or cayenne peppers

Instructions:

  1. Dry the tuna and salt and pepper each side. Set it aside while you make the mango sauce.
  2. Add the mango, garlic, chilis, lime juice, and a generous portion of salt and pepper to a food processor or blender and pulse to combine. The sauce should be completely smooth.
  3. Preheat a large skillet to medium high heat. Add about 2 tablespoons of oil and sear the tuna until seared on the exterior but still rare in the middle, about 3 minutes each side.
  4. Remove the tuna from the heat and pour the sauce over the fish. Make sure to serve the extra sauce on the side, because it is a hit!
