Smashed Potatoes: Upgrade your French Fries!

Smashed Potatoes: Upgrade your French Fries!

Switch up your french fry game and try this air fryer masterpiece, my smashed potatoes. They are kinda like a cross between french fries and potato chips and definitely deserve a seat next to your favorite burger.

My smashed potatoes have a crispy exterior, but a soft, fluffy interior. They are also versatile; you could top them with cheese or just dunk them in ketchup. In this recipe, I cook them to perfection in an air fryer with some garlic, salt, and pepper and I highly recommend serving them along side my Juicy Lucy chicken burger with camembert.

Serves 2 – my air fryer is relatively small, and you definitely do not want to crowd these because they do not get crispy. Add more if you have the room, or you can even bake these in an oven at high heat (425F).

Tools:

Aside from the aforementioned airfryer, you will need a potato mashing instrument.

Ingredients:

10 Baby Potatoes

2 cloves of garlic, minced

Plenty of salt and pepper

1/4 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions:

  1. Start by parboiling the potatoes. Cover them with cold water in a large pot and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 15 – 20 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile preheat your air fryer to 400F.
  3. When the potatoes are soft enough to gently poke with a fork, drain them and allow to cool slightly.
  4. On a clean cutting board or on parchment paper to prevent sticking, gently smush the potatoes one by one with a potato masher.
  5. Add them to your air fryer basket. Mine doesn’t have a basket, so I am using the cooking sheet it came with, which I lightly oiled. Sprinkle the potatoes generously with salt and pepper and spray them with cooking spray or oil. Cook in the air fryer for 10 minutes.
  6. After 10 minutes, sprinkle the smashed potatoes with the garlic and continue to cook for another 10 minutes.
  7. Once they are finished, sprinkle with parmesan cheese and serve with your condiments of choice.
