Tuna Nicoise Platter: How to Make this Company Worthy Dish

I always order the Tuna Nicoise if it is on any menu simply because it is, hands down, the best salad. Not only is it elegant and delicious, but it is sure to impress because of the stunning array of colors, flavors and the bonus – it’s easy and doesn’t use a ton of pots and pans. Make this next time you have friends over and thank me later.

Tuna Nicoise Platter

Serves 4

Wine Pairing suggestion:

Sancerre or Sauvignon Blanc if you can’t find it

Ingredients:

4 – 6 cups Romaine lettuce , or about 1 large heart

5 red potatoes, chopped

tuna nicoise ingredients

2 Roma tomatoes, chopped

2 shallots, chopped

1 cup of green beans, chopped

1/2 cup Kalamata olives

2 -3 soft boiled eggs

1 pound of  Ahi tuna

For the Nicoise Dressing:

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1/2 teaspoon oregano

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 cup red wine vinegar

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon of pepper

Instructions:

  1. Add the potatoes into plenty cold water with some salt and bring to a boil. Once the water is boiling reduce the heat to simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the green beans and a pinch more salt. After about 3 minutes, add the eggs. Remove from heat let stand for 7 minutes before draining. Put the eggs in cool water to stop the cooking process and for easier peeling.
  2. Meanwhile, heat a skillet to medium high heat. Once the pan is hot add the oil. Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of the fish and sear for 3 minutes each side, remove from heat.
  3. Assemble the salad on a platter by covering the bottom with Romaine lettuce and then adding the rest of the ingredients section by section. Take care to slice the eggs as the yokes will still be a bit runny. Slice the tuna into strips and arrange in the center of the platter.
  4. Combine all salad dressing ingredients into a mason jar and shake to combine. Drizzle over the entire tuna nicoise platter and serve any extra on the side.
