This whipped labneh makes a perfect accompaniment to a cold mezze platter or even just a healthy snack on it’s own. Delicious and simple to make, it definitely secures it’s place for an appetizer to whip out at the last second or an easy afterschool snack!
If you are not familiar with labneh it is kind of like a cross between Greek yogurt and cream cheese. In official terms, labneh is technically a cheese made from yogurt, so it’s tangy, creamy, and rich. It’s spreadable and when whipped, it is the perfect answer to crudité for dipping, but could easily pair with pita or crusty bread. It’s totally up to you and what you like!
Labneh is also easy to make but there is a waiting game while it strains. It’s very easy to find here in the UAE and I have found it in Whole Foods stateside. But, here is a recipe if you would like to try and make on your own. Otherwise, follow along below for a quick and delicious whipped labneh recipe deserving of a spot on your next mezze platter.
Serves 4-6 but you can simply make more or make a big batch if you prefer. It will keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week.
Ingredients:
1 cup labneh
1 teaspoon of each – salt, zaatar, and olive oil
Crudités of choice. Bitter radishes pair very nicely and cucumber and peppers are my favorites.
Instructions:
- Combine the labneh with the salt and stir using a fork or a whisk to combine and smooth for about 30 seconds.
- Top with zaatar and olive oil and arrange you vegetables around the labneh and enjoy!
